Hello! ✦
I’m Viet-My Bui (Vyet-Mee), a Vietnamese-Australian artist and illustrator living on Wurundjeri land.
Though I began drawing avidly as soon as I could hold a pencil, my creative journey is one full of twists, turns and scenic detours. Significantly, I received my first drawing tablet at 14 and began posting my work on DeviantArt. I thrived in the online art community and continued to nurture my passion through adolescence. Things took a downturn at this point, and I stopped drawing for a while. After floundering through seven years of studying and working in law, I decided to undertake a Bachelor of Communications Design at Monash University. I loved learning about design and being amongst creative peers for the first time. This foray also reaffirmed my true passion: making art. Since then, I have been gently rebuilding my art practice, one drawing at a time.
Digital painting has been my chosen medium for almost two decades. In recent years, I have begun to explore traditional mediums such as acryla gouache, ink and pencil. My expressive illustration work features feminine characters in all their strength and softness, painted in a dreamscape of saturated colours.
Let’s Work Together
I am available for commissions and freelance work, for projects large and small. I am especially interested in themes of inclusivity, BIPOC narratives, mental health and slow fashion. Please get in touch!
